Artemis-I : Mission to Moon

Artemis-I

We need to know about why this program called Artemis? Artemis is a mythological Greek Goddess of Moon and twin sister of Apollo. It’s a fitting name for the program that will send the first woman and first person of color to the Moon by 2030.

This mission is currently unmanned but crewed spacecraft is under development and ready to carry people in nearly 2026. The spacecraft is named as ORION [ Ocean Research Interactive Observatory Network ].

Artemis-I will orbit the moon about 70000 Km above the moon’s surface. It was firstly launched on 29 August, 2022 but there was any technical issues rises due to this mission postponed and new date of launch are 2 September, 2022 or 5 September, 2022.

The Artemis program is a robotic and human moon exploration program led by the United States Space Agency, NASA & involving three other partner agencies : European Space Agency [ESA], Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency [JAXA] and Canadian Space Agency [CSA]. Basically it is a type of test program to check all condition and working of spacecraft because it later used for astronaut mission and place astronauts on the lunar surface.

Scanned view of Artemis-I

Structure of rocket:-

Height:- Block 1 crew: 322 ft ; Block 2 cargo: 365 ft.

Mass:- Block 1: 95 t ; Block 1B: 105 t ; Block 2: 130 t.

Diameter:- 27.6 ft , core stage.

About the rocket:-

• The carrier rocket is the most powerful and super heavy-lift expandable vehicle.

• It is named as SLS ( Space Launch System ).

• It is first time use for Artemis-I Mission from Kennedy Space Center.

Why go to the Moon?

• Demonstrate new technologies, capabilities, and business approaches needed for future exploration including Mars.

• Study Moon to learn more about the origin and history.

What will we do there?

While Mars remains our horizon goal, we have set our sight first on exploring the surface of the Moon with human and robots explorers. At the Moon we will:

• Find and use water and other critical resources needed for long term exploration.

• Investigate the moon’s mysteries and learn more about our home planet.

• We learn how to live and operates mission on the another celestial body where astronauts are just there days from home.

• It make easy to go on Mars the some distance is reduced from Moon.

Future mission to Moon:-

• Artemis-II, is the first ever crewed test flight of the Orion spacecraft, targeted to launch on SLS rocket no later than May 2024.

• Artemis-III, currently targeted for earlier than 2027, will fly astronauts to the Moon. The mission may land humans on the lunar surface.

Steps take place in this mission:-

1) Launch by SLS ( Space Launch System ) from pad 39B at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, USA

2) Mission control preform final checks in low Earth orbit

3) Translunar injection by Injection Cryogenic Propulsion Stage (ICPS)

4) Trip to the Moon

5) Flyby of Moon with gravity assist

6) Injection in Distance Retrograde Orbit (70,000 Km from the Moon, almost 500,000 Km from the Earth)

7) Departure from Distance Retrograde Orbit

8) Second flyby of Moon with gravity assist

9) Home trip to Earth

10) Separation of the crew module from the expandable element of Orion ( the European Service Module and the Crew Module Adaptor)

11) Re-entry of Crew Module and Splash down in the Pacific Ocean.

About James Webb Space Telescope

JAMES WEBB SPACE TELESCOPE  JAMES WEBB SPACE TELESCOPE Firstly we need to know about the space telescope. It is a telescope which is placed in outer space and used to observe astronomical objects. And also used to study different types of light phenomenon like Aurora lights and to study hottest and most explosive object. Currently, NASA had launched a space telescope named as JAMES WEBB SPACE TELESCOPE [JWST] . It was made by international collaboration among NASA, the European Space Agency, and the Canadian Space Agency. It works as a replacement of Hubble Space Telescope. JWST was launched on 25 December 2021 on Arian Flight VA256. Firstly it was named as Next Generation Space Telescope and after some time name change to James Webb Space Telescope. There are some properties of JWST are Mass- 6161.4kg , Dimensions- 20.197m×14.162m , Power- 2KW. It operates in a Halo orbit, circling around a point in space known as the Sun-Earth Lagrange Point, approx 1500000km beyond Earth orbit aroun

Lifecycle of a star : Birth to Death

STARS AND PLANETS  Star A star is a luminous and biggest object in the universe that emit light naturally. Sun is also a star. The study of birth , life and death of a stars is called stellar evolution. First stage in the birth of star is called protostar and the death of star is called supernova .  FORMATION OF A STAR BY CLOUD OF DUST How stars are formed ? Stars are made by cloud of gases and dust that scattered throughout the galaxies. The cloud of dust is called the orion nebula . As gravitational force of attraction applied on cloud they collapses and when cloud collapse the material at the center get heat up so that all stars and planet have high temperature at core. A star build by continuous process of gravitational pull cloud collapse to make its size bigger. The size of star (or mass of a star) reaches from  15 to 130 solar masses . At center the temperature gets extremely high, it tigger the fusion reaction. All the material that has fallen in then evolves into a hot and br

AURORA: THE LIGHT OF POLES

Space view of Aurora Lights  Firstly, we need to know about the aurora. Auroras are the light which is produced naturally by collision of charge particles with gasses molecules present in the atmosphere. Predominantly sun in high latitude region like arctic and Antarctic. This light produces always at poles because magnetic field of earth is stronger on the poles and also the density of magnetic field lines is high there. Thus, a large number of charge particles found at the poles. The charge particles collide with the gasses to making them excited that cause  coloured visible light. When the charge particle collides with oxygen molecules then green light is emitted mostly but sometimes it produce red light and when collides with nitrogen molecules then more pink , orange or red colours emitted. Different types of Aurora Light seen on different places  These light appearing near the North Pole and South Pole. Scientist name these light as at North Pole light called “ Aurora borealis
